Nanotech in Health, Environment & Society

Jun 01, 2008 - Jun 05, 2008
Hynes Convention Center Boston, Massachusetts United States

Highlights

NSTI is proud to collaborate with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Small Times Media in presenting a Special Symposium on Nanotechnology in Health, Environment & Society, with a focus towards:

“Exploring opportunities to foster innovation using nanotechnology materials to develop safe and effective drugs, biologics and devices, and to develop safe foods, feeds, and cosmetics.”

Consistent with the scientific origins of the conference, this symposium provides a forum to present the societal, health, and environmental benefits and safety concerns presented by nanotechnology, and to discuss regulatory, health and policy issues surrounding the rapid development and commercialization of these technologies. Presentations will include technical and commercial breakthroughs along with addressing of societal issues by industry, government and environmental organizations. Goals include:

* Establish a strong base of understanding about the best thinking on the safety, health, environmental and social implications of nanotech;
* Engage the mainstream science and business community on the full range of topics associated with these issues;
* Become a key gathering place for the community of people and institutions interested in the safety, environmental and social implications of nanotechnology.
* Continue to strengthen FDA's collaborative relationships with other federal agencies, including the agencies participating in the National Nanotechnology Initiative such as the NIH, EPA, USDA, as well as with foreign government regulatory bodies, international organizations, healthcare professionals, industry, consumers, and other stakeholders to gather information regarding nanotechnology materials used or that could be used in FDA-regulated products.
* Consider appropriate vehicles for communicating with the public about the use of nanotechnology materials in FDA-regulated products.
