Many existing animal models are no good. Drugs are failing in costly clinical trials due to having shown a good performance in poor models. Many long-established models were developed at a time when understanding of the disease process was less advanced and furthermore in the absence of many of the pioneering technologies that are available today.

New techniques and technologies that are emerging are enabling the development of better and more realistic models with which to study disease processes and screen new compounds. Informa Life Sciences' inaugural Animal Models for Therapeutic Research conference will assemble scientists and experts from diverse therapeutic areas and backgrounds to examine how best to improve upon pre-clinical in vivo research.
