Highlights

The antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) (Hughes' syndrome) was described 25 years ago. In 1983, the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) was found to be associated with a very distinct syndrome, embracing, critically, both arterial and venous thrombosis, prominent neurological involvement (especially stroke), recurrent pregnancy loss and occasional thrombocytopenia.
