Highlights: The course approaches infectious disease from several perspectives and explores the underlying biology, epidemiology, clinical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and control of infections to infectious disease. The course will discuss the various types of infection including fungal, bacterial and viral and the role of laboratory testing in their diagnosis, treatment and control. The course will review urinary tract infections, gastric diseases, respiratory infections, skin, soft tissue and bone infections. Additionally the programme will also cover the issues surrounding community versus hospital acquired infection and include a session focussing specifically on sepsis and sceptic shock.

Detailed case studies will provide an understanding of strategies used in practice and discussion will be inherent throughout the course.
