The ICM 2008 Scientific Professional Programme Committee have devised a programme that it believes will be a stimulating opportunity for midwives of all backgrounds and experience.
The framework of the programme offers a diverse range of activities including the traditional peer reviewed papers discussions of work in progress, workshops and innovative approaches such as storytelling, philosophical explorations and art and drama. This inclusive quality programme provides opportunities for delegates and for active participation throughout.
The overarching theme aims to highlight the importance of strengthening midwifery at national, local and community level within diverse healthcare systems. Strong leadership, effective legislation and partnership with women are essential in order to develop a responsive service which is customised to meet local circumstances.
