Welcome to the international conference and workshops entitled GEOBIA, 2008 - Pixels, Objects, Intelligence: Geographic Object Based Image Analysis for the 21St Century. GEOBIA 2008 will be held at the University of Calgary (UofC), Alberta, Canada August, 6-7, 2008, with an icebreaker on the evening of August 5, and workshops scheduled for Aug 4-5, and 8-9. The conference program will be based on concurrent oral & poster sessions covering a range of topics from theory and methods to applications. Four invited keynote speakers from government, industry, and academia will further highlight key issues and challenges. GEOBIA, 2008 is co-organized in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, the ASPRS and the ISPRS. Opportunities for industry booths and displays will be promoted. Conference proceedings will be linked with ISPRS Working Group IV/4 to provide literary/scientific standards and online access. A GEOBIA special issue of Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing (PE&RS) will be published in 2009
