Medical Education Day evolved from the annual Office of Medical Student Education (OMSE) spring teaching retreat. It encompasses an expanded education retreat, including workshops geared toward teachers of all levels of experience. National leaders in education are invited to Medical Education Day to lead plenary sessions and workshops. Poster sessions and exhibits showcasing current curricular technologies are included.
A highlight of Medical Education Day is the workshop discussions. Past topics have included: small-group facilitation for new preceptors; advanced small-group facilitation and planning; team-based learning (TBL); designing the ideal lecture and handout; educational research designs; professionalism; residents as teachers; effective small group teaching; the five-minute preceptor; and feedback in clinical medicine.
