Highlights: This international conference brings together scholars currently working on the SS camp system between 1933 and 1939. We welcome proposals for papers on key aspects of the concentration camps, including: The place of the SS camps within the Nazi dictatorship. Here, possible topics include the development and function of the camp system, the policies of the central camps' administration and the training of SS camp personnel; Life and death inside the camps, including topics such as labour, punishment, resistance, the role of prisoner functionaries and the relationship between different inmate groups; The relationship between the camps and the German population, exploring issues such as the interaction of ordinary people with the concentration camps and popular knowledge about the camps.
