The 2008 Film & History Conference in Chicago will investigate the role of science in film and television…and the role of film and television in science. How does science—its histories and tools, its paradigms and personalities, its economics, sub-cultures, and mythologies—shape, or get shaped by, the stories and styles of visual media?

How does the relationship between science and film affect our sense of the past, the present, or the future? And what about our sense of ourselves or of other societies? The conference will examine the representation of science from multiple angles: fictional, historical, visionary, technical (including film technology), biographical, epistemological, cultural, sexual, political.
