Highlights
This conference is a response to the staggering race-ethnic disparities in stroke, and the disproportionate stroke burden on African American and Hispanic populations. It will review the root causes of this disparity, and provide an evidence based approach to the treatment and prevention of stroke. The target audience is primary care physicians, neurologists, nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and emergency medical technicians who serve black and Hispanic populations.
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be better able to: review risk factors for stroke within the African American and Hispanic populations and learn evidence-based approaches to combat them
* learn about the time-dependent use of acute stroke interventions, especially intravenous thrombolysis.

* learn about Hip Hop Stroke - a culturally tailored school-based intervention to improve stroke knowledge, foster behavioral changes, and enhance early recognition of this disease among African American and Hispanic populations
* learn the latest Government guidelines on Stroke Center certification and stroke systems of care, and how these changes may help reduce stroke disparities.
* understand and learn the latest rehabilitation approaches to the management of the stroke patient
