ASNE Automation & Controls Symposium 2010

Commonality and Open Architecture for Naval Ship Control Systems.
Aug 10,2010 - Aug 11,2010
Frontier Airlines Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States

Highlights

The ASNE Automation & Controls Symposium 2010 has been established to serve as a forum for the exchange of innovative ideas relating to the automation and integration of naval machinery and ship control systems. The symposium promotes the exchange of ideas and information in a professional engineering environment with attendees from U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Military Sealift Command, industry, and academia. The theme for Automation & Controls Symposium 2010 is “Commonality and Open Architecture for Naval Ship Control Systems.”

The Navy initiative for commonality is crucial for the success of both the Current Navy and the Next Navy. While the theme of commonality has been stressed in naval shipbuilding programs going back to the 1980’s and again in the 1990’s, the recent NAVSEA Commonality and Open Architecture initiatives have set the table for real lifeâ€cycle cost reductions in all phases of a naval vessel’s service life. Open Architecture has brought to the forefront the need to adhere to commonly accepted protocols and interfaces, as well as an overall modularity approach in form, fit and function. Commonality, building on the foundation Open Architecture has provided, is now poised to help the Navy realize the increased readiness and decreased lifecycle costs they are seeking in order to meet their requirements in a fiscally constrained environment
