Highlights
Join us in Vancouver, BC, Canada, October 2–3, 2010, for the 2nd OSDI Workshop on Supporting Diversity in Systems Research. The goal of this workshop is to strengthen the pipeline of systems students from underrepresented backgrounds. Over the course of two days, leading researchers from academia and industry will meet with female and ethnic minority students to provide valuable mentoring and career advice. Topics for the mentoring sessions include how to select a research agenda, how to craft an effective elevator pitch, and how to successfully finish a dissertation. The workshop also has two technical sessions. The first features presentations from established academics, allowing students to learn about cutting-edge research and how it can be presented effectively. The second technical session is a poster session in which students describe their research to each other and to more senior members of the academic community; this session provides students with a fantastic opportunity to receive targeted feedback in a supportive environment. Please check back later for information about how to submit a poster.
We encourage advisors to send their systems students from underrepresented backgrounds to this workshop! It represents a great chance for these students to network and receive mentoring from experienced members of the systems community. We hope to see you in Vancouver!
