Timely forum to examine the WA Government’s NEW risk based management approach to improving safety in the resources sector
The West Australian Government is introducing a new system to improve mine safety in the state. This new risk based approach to mine safety stems from the recent Kenner Report and will reshape the approach to mine safety across mine sites in WA.
For the first time the wider industry will be asked to contribute to a levy which will fund an extra 37 mine inspectors, vastly increasing the numbers of inspectors who will measure safety performance in the field.
These new reforms will reinforce that the onus is on operators to demonstrate an understanding of the hazards and risks of their operations, and to put in place mechanisms and processes that mitigate against those risks.
