Specifications provide a level of confidence for the customer that the supplier will be providing a disciplined approach to assessing product conformance to the design goals. In addition, Quantitative as well as qualitative attributes can be defined and monitored in a statistically relevant manner that represents lot compliance.

Out of spec product leaves the manufacturer and brand at risk of customer/consumer dissatisfaction as well as legally liability for breach of contract. Lack of clear concise specifications can lead to ambiguity between the supplier and client.
