earning Commons have changed the way higher education institutions deliver information, study and research services. The evolution from library to learning common demonstrates a global shift in pedagogical theory : the emphasis is on providing a place that is learner-centered by combining the elements of teaching, learning, research and technological support. As Australian universities increasingly look to integrate the academic, social, digital and research aspects that constitute higher education in the twenty first century, it is important to analyse how differing theoretical approaches to learning create different design outcomes. The inaugural Learning Commons Development and Design Forum will not only be focusing on the pedagogical but also the design developments - both in the immediate and long term future – that will revolutionise the higher education learning experience.
