Highlights
Despite undergoing its worst downturn in eight years, Panama will be one of the few countries in Latin America to post positive growth in 2009, thanks to a series of mega-projects. It will also be in a relatively solid position to build on this performance in 2010-11, with annual growth set to average 3.3%, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit. However, although the economy has continued to grow in 2009, many labour-intensive areas of the domestic economy are suffering and fiscal and financial constraints will curb the administration's ability to follow through on election promises of massive infrastructure spending. What are the global economic recovery scenarios and the implications for Panama's business and economic outlook? What are the government's top policy priorities and what do they mean for business?
The Panama Forum will bring together a highly-influential group of top government officials, business leaders and opinion-makers to stimulate a debate and about the issues and policies shaping the future of Panama's economic development.
