This program will provide an overview of co-occurring addiction and psychiatric illness, including standard diagnostic criteria by which psychiatric, chemical dependency and substance-induced disorders are diagnosed; individual considerations for determining the appropriate course of treatment; available psycho-social and pharmacologic treatment interventions; and the perspectives of both the person with addiction and the treatment provider on addiction and psychiatric illness.

About the presenter
Patrick Gibbons, DOPatrick Gibbons, MSW, DO, is a board certified Psychiatrist who is fellowship-trained in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. Dr. Gibbons received his DO degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, participated in residency training in Family Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and completed residency training in Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. Prior to medical school, Dr. Gibbons received his MSW from the University of Michigan. Dr. Gibbons is active in volunteer work with Dawn Farm, and is currently Dawn Farm’s Medical Director. He is an Adjunct Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at The University of Michigan. He practices psychiatry with the Washtenaw County Health Organization in community programs including ACCESS, CSTS, PORT and Integrated Health with the High Risk Obstetric Service at University of Michigan. He is also the current Medical Director of the Michigan Health Professionals Recovery Program and a consultant in private practice with Pain Management Solutions in Ann Arbor.
