In Europe it is estimated that each year, approximately 75 out of 100000 patients will lose a limb through major amputation for irreversible ischemic tissue loss and these numbers are continuously increasing. Almost 50% of the diabetic patients within this population are expected to die within 5 years after amputation through major coronary or cerebral stroke.

Despite this dramatic situation consensus over management protocols of the ischemic tissue loss are still awaited, therefore we call you to join forces in a multidisciplinary initiative to reduce the overall number of lower limb amputations through cooperation and innovative approaches for ischemic tissue loss.

On behalf of the CompasX Association and the Romanian Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (RSRM) it is our great pleasure to invite you to Timisoara, to the 1st CompasX Congress, which will be held during April 1-2, 2011.

We believe that this event will offer a unique opportunity, for all of us that are dealing with ischemic tissue loss, to embark on creative debates from early referral protocols, conservative wound management, Charcot foot, revascularization and soft tissue reconstruction.
